Hmmm... a 4kw generator in the average RV runs a rooftop AC, lights, battery
chargers, refrigerator, etc. (In warm weather, they certainly run an RV
furnace fan...)
How do you have it wired into your fuse panel... did you buy a switch? (So
you don't electrocute some poor electric company bastard by backfilling the
line with juice)????

What brand of generator is it?
Run it with some kind of load, like plug several drop lights into one
outlet. Use the volt meter on the other outlet and make sure it is putting
out around 120V. The thing should run at 3600 RPM, standard for generator
motors. 4kw is enough to drive a TV and a small refrigerator, maybe, but
not a furnace fan.
