One other option that I took and it isn't for everyone (especially at 
this time!)... 20+ years of military service and then retire.  Of course 
I served during a relatively "calm" time (Vietnam war and the cold war) 
and sat under the ground in Kansas for 12 of those 20+ years on a Titan 
II launch crew (are we going to kill millions of people today?  ... no.)
My wife had breast cancer.  Bills totaled over $150,000 (One SHOT was 
$4800!!!  She got 4 of them!) I thought I had a heart attack ... cost 
for the tests ... $3500.  We paid $3000 total for FY2006.
