Bugsy got a present for Christmas of a new Gas Pedal to replace the old one
that no longer wished to stay attached to the linkage. Rubber knob worn out and
trashed and my attempts to rig up alternative connections to the throttle
linkage had failed. Old pedal seemed to have been bent at a rather obscure
angle that I attributed to simply old age. New pedal seems to move freely and
at what appears to be a proper right angle to the hinge. Installed new pedal
and discovered that linkage is hanging up and throttle springs cannot return
car to proper idle. It's enought to keep the car above 2,500 rpm while driving
so shifting becomes quite interesting. The question is this, does a Spridget
throttle pedal pivot straight up and down at right angles arc to the mounting
plate or is the thing really bent at some obscure angle and that is what is
holding the linkage from returning to proper idle. I may just need to add an
additional throttle return spring or two.
Also went to refill the dashpots, couldn't find any ATF Fluid on the shelf so
I added a small anmount of 3 In One Household Oil. Too thick, thin, just about
right? Problems mixing with ATF Fluid? Your thoughts? Idle return to normal is
sluggish and perhaps my problem could be caused by adding fluid to the
dashpots. More research is needed on my part.
