Last year, 930,000 Brits lost their driver's license or had it stolen.
Under new plans by the Labour government, that will put bundles more
money into the Government Treasury with #30 fines after the new U.K.
identification cards in 2009. Of course for drivers that is just a drop
in the bucket on top of the other whopping fines that will be coming
with the cards:
#1,000 for failing to return a dead relative's ID card
#30 for women to get a new card if they want to use their married
name (#9 to the Government
#1,000 fine for women whouse their married name without a new card
#1,000 fine for anyone not informing the government of a new address
#1,000 fine for any student who did not change his residence from
school to home or home to school each term
The ID cards will have a photograph of the owner, as well as a microchip
that the Goverment has so far publicly admitted, biometric information
such as old-fashioned fingerprints, plus gee-whiz stuff like iris or
facial scans.
As well as a picture, the card will carry a microchip holding biometric
information such as fingerprints, iris or facial scans. For a good
gasp--errr, grasp--of it all, check:

Can't you just see an SS Z|ndapp KS750 (mit sidecar) pulling up beside a
Sprite somewhere in East Anglia, and the rider asking the driver, "Sie
Papiere bitte." Errrr, I mean, "Your papers please.)
Robert B. Evans, who said politely,
Ich habe keine Papiere, Sie Dummkopf.
