Hey Dave,
I think you might get the seller's attention if you can indeed determine the
car's VIN is hinky in any kind of way, as that becomes a pretty serious
legal issue... and something he might wish to avoid. When the FBI knocks on
his door, it's gonna be a bad day for him.
So, who, on the list knows his shit enough and lives nearby to pay a visit
to Dave's so we can look closer at the VIN?
Or, Dave, we can walk you thru the process, or if you're physically unable,
maybe walk one of your local buddies thru the process of checking it out.

First, to all listers,
I would like to thank everybody for your replies. My original intent in
writing the email was not to be a whiner, but to make the list
membership aware of my personal experience with this particular seller
and so to be very cautious.
To Gilroy,
>> Where are you in WA, I am in Issaquah WA.
I am in Richland, in the Tri-Cities... I sure would not want to try
coming over Snoqualmie pass at the present time... As the song says
"Slip Sliding Away" :-))
To WST,
>>First off, don't get defensive... you brought the subject to the
>> list, and the list is going to make comments about it.
I'm sorry I gave the impression that I was being defensive... That's
why I started off by saying it was written in a 'gentle frame of mind'
I just thought you'd like to see some of the items I had found wrong
about the car.
Also, I was concerned that I might be taking up too much of the list's
time and web space with one individuals (me) problems..
As to your very valid comment
>> "I don't recall anyone asking about getting a car looked at in St.
>> Louis.... did you post that request to the list?
Unfortunately at that point in time I was not aware of the list. I
think it was Paul A. that pointed it out to me.. :-))
But, if there ever is a next time.....
To Greg,
>> Dave you should be leaving some feedback on E-bay regarding
>> theSeller.
I did try, but eBay wouldn't let me, it doesn't see me as being the
Buyer.
I would genuinely like to know how to do that for an item that wasn't
completed through eBay?? I don't know that much about eBay!!
I have left feedback other items that I've bought using eBay - that was
easy..
To Linda and others,
Thank you very much for your kind thoughts and condolences... Yes! It
*IS* "only money", what upsets me the most is the big disappointment of
not getting what I expected to get, and also being taken for a fool...
To Kent,
>> If so, you might be in a very good position to renegotiate the
>> price by letting him know that you will file a complaint with the
>> DMV dealer's licensing bureau as well as filing a lawsuit
>> against him and his business.
Thank you. That's a good idea -- I shall pursue the legal option after
the Christmas holidays when the attorneys are back in their offices...
BTW - he has not responded to my correspondence.
>> You can check for the true VIN on the base of the front shock
>> mount on the passenger side
If that is on a plate riveted to the inside which can be seen from the
engine compartment... that one is also a fake... it starts off with
"1275... " which, of course, is also garbage!
Is that towards the top of the shock or towards the bottom, near the
axle spindles ?? Or am I in the wrong area altogether!
If it is stamped somewhere on the sub-frame and not on the sheet metal,
I would need some directions on how to find it. I've never had to look
for one before.
To one and all, a Merry Christmas, Happy Channukah and a Happy New
Year.
May you all have "Top Down" weather for the coming year
Dave G.
