Your videos reminded me of how Corvairs, Volkswagens, Plymouth Valiants, 
and Volvo 444/544's were all part and parcel of the sports car crowd 
back in the Golden Age.  They even had clubs of their own and staged 
events (I still have dash plaques from them).  I do not, however, recall 
any of them racing in SCCA races.

    The one with the timeing stand was taken at the lower runway at
    Wheeler AFB
    where the only planes got off against the Japs during Pearl Harbor.
    The other
    is in the PACAF HQ parking lot at Hickam AFB.
    Both events sponcered by the Armed Forces Forign Car Club who did
    events each
    month.
