I went through this recently. I don't think you can get a regular amp
anymore, and the types you mentioned sound horrible. I don't think the kids
care about the sound quality. The current 2500 watts sounds more like 12
watts, but with tons of distortion. The speakers are also terribly
inefficient. I ended up combing ebay for a Pioneer amp from the early
eighties. If you can find something like that, they're really cheap and
their rated 12 watts per channel will blow the socks off the modern
amps...without sounding like a tortured mosfet IC.
BTW, HiFi has been dead for quite a while...welcome to the 21st Century.
