Hi Bob. Welcome to the list. I have only been on for a month and have
found the knowledge that folks are more than willing to share to be
invaluable.
I also live in NY state, near Elmira, so suggest you register it as your
paperwork indicates. From prior experience, doing anything else will only
confuse our DMV folks and could create more headaches than you could imagine.
For the inspection, installing a button type switch in place of the steering
wheel button works as a quick fix for the horn button. You can temporarily
attach the new switch under or on the dash, etc. so that you can easily blow
the horn for the inspector. That's what mine has. As I am planning on
doing, you can then go back later and fix the original button.
As other folks said, do whatever it takes to get on the road quickly.
