Hey, guys,
Took a while to sink in my hard head, but Frank`s suggestion about
different rod lengths for the two size MCs rang a bell. I have been messing
with these cars over 40 years and never noticed, never having had both in
pieces at the same time, more or less. Really, never had a clue. (Case of
knowing some and assuming you know it all.)
So, then, the Bugeye rod I was using for a standard is perhaps the longer
because maybe the rod bore in the 7/8" piston I was using for a standard may
be deeper? And the two MCs aren`t so much alike as I thought, the 3/4" piston
maybe having a more shallow bore? Could that difference account for the extra
1/2'' or so that set me on such a rant?
As soon as I get the Bug back together from it`s brake overhaul and move
the Midget to the warm side of the garage, I`m going to have to do the MC
exchange to satisfy myself that the White Post rebuild was, in fact,
competent; but I now got the feeling I could have been wrong in my concerns.
If I have been wrong, let that be another lesson to me. I will eat my words,
washed down with the customary Dewar`s and soda, plenty ice, in my favorite
Waterford glass...
This forum is a great resource. I received a lot of intelligent feedback
and appreciate all the help. Cheers,
Bert.
