Solved at least for today.
26* out this morning and it cranked and fired up with a different starter.
Like Paul said, a semi bum starter.
But while making my rounds this morning I noticed the volt gauge at 11
volts, I thought about heading back home when all of a sudden, 15 volts!
Went to the bank, 11 volts. Came around a major intersection and the car
died. Pushed it into the local WAWA parking lot to discover the fuel
pump gave up. Now will a few sharp blows with a suitable hammer
substitute make a Purolator square noisy fuel pump restart?
Yes! :) Back on my way but not to the lumber yard, post office, or job.
Back home for the truck.
So between a semi bum starter, and an intermitent alternator, maybe I
solved the problem.
New fuel pump problem is a new problem and why not, I almost solved the
no start problem.
All this is proof that if you do NOT use these cars, they WILL break
down all the time.
My Sprite never left me stranded due to driving it too much.
PIECES was acting up alot when it was NOT used all the time.
And the A40 sees about 50 miles a year, mostly because I am working out
bugs.
And now for the kicker......
I happened by Autozone so I decided to get a new $30 square electric
fuel pump. You know the little "universal" ones everybody sells. FP1 is
probably the part number. Dweeb behind the counter asks "What make and
model?" I said don't ask. He needed to know so I told him 1959 Austin
A40 Farina that never came with an electric pump, bet you don't have a
listing. Do you have the "little square elec fuel pump? Huh drone? huh?
No listing for an Austin, who makes it?
After 10 minutes of this BS where he needed more info, and I was ready
to crush his pointy head, I left and just said I'll get one myself from
somebody who knows what auto parts are.
So Peter, if you are reading this, stick an FP1 in my box please ;)
