Hi,
Not trying to defend Mini Mania, but I read the line on their site this way,
so this makes sense:
Installing wide tires, while at the same time increasing horsepower, causes
the Sprite rear axle to move around a lot etc.

> Although installing wide tires will increase your Spridget's horsepower,
it also causes the rear axle to move around under cornering and acceleration
forces. You'll see evidence of this in signs of tire rub on the inner edge
of the fender when it seems that there is plenty of clearance. Mini Mania
has designed and tested our own Sprite Axle Stabilizer Bar. By forming
triangle between the rear springs and the body, this lateral link eliminates
side to side motion of the rear axle while reducing the tendency of the axle
to roll under braking and acceleration. Detailed step by step instructions
and diagrams are included to insure trouble-free installation. For
Semi-elliptic Spridgets.
