I had to go to "home cheapo" today to get some 1x12. I could not
believe the slop they are pawning off on the American public. Twenty
years ago, I was buying 5,000 board feet of C Select pine. Beautiful
wood. But even at good home centers, the homeowner could get quality
even in grade 4 lumber. What I bought today was filled with checks and
knots that 20 years ago would have been given away for fire wood.
Then when my son and I were working with the, the screws ruined three
Phillips bits as it just spun. One of them actually broke in the
drill! Where did he get them? Home Disaster!
A couple of months ago, he got a box of tiles, and the box had about
three or four distinctly different shades of blue! Actually, one was a
powder blue, and in the same box was a Navy blue!
Such a pity. People accept the the slope and crap from Home Disaster,
Lowes, and OSH because they don't remember anything else.
Unfortunately, I can remember the great hardware stores that had drawers
from floor to ceiling, a musty smell to the entire building, and the
owners were embarassed when something broke.
Sorry, but today was not a good day thanks to Frank's buddies.
