You have a point! When building my '74 for racing I had the entire body
smoothed out and primered ready for final paint, including the doors.
I went to pick up one of the doors (gutted of window stuff) and said
"WTF?" All that extra weight is NOT a good thing for racing. The door
bars are almost impossible to completely remove without damaging the
door. I had to replace my beautiful, pristine doors with a couple of
badly bent ones from an AH junkyard car. One still "tin cans" to this
day.
Moral of this story-- you can reverse the weight damage. Also, proves
that AHs are actually good for something in providing donor parts for
MGs. KIDDING!! Just kidding!!! ;-))))))))))
