When I had my pythons, I raised my own rats for them. The rats
were pretty entertaining. Especially when one of the young males
would be attacked by the dominate male who tried to bite off their
testicles!! They are nocturnal creatures and can easily be trained
to perform tricks. A college pal had a lab rat trained to ride around
in his shirt pocket. The rat knew its name and would actually come
when called and perform simple things like roll over, lay down...etc.
Teach a cat to do THAT!!
I too grew up around a farm - dairy farm. Cats were ubiquitous.
We kept them as rat/mouse control and probably killed about a dozen
a year sleeping in machinery around the farm. They are expendable.
When my Burmese Python got to 16 feet and 220#, she ate rabbits
and any stray cats I trapped in the back yard. As I said before, cats
main redeeming value is as food.... ;-)
Cheers!!
