Just to add to this thread (no apologies Jay) on insurance...
One of the best ideas I've heard recently was a plan to have the state
supply all insurance, and to make the premium a part of the price of a gallon
of
gas. That way, everyone who bought gas would have insurance.
The only problem I saw was that the government would have to run the program
(re-insuring with insurance companies) and you can guess how ef'd up that
would be....
