my bugeye has the single hoop rollbar installed in '61 a week before it's
first race and it's career lasted untill '64 as a dc. region scca
h/production race car.
dismantling an old race car is like being an automotive archeologist! you
unearth some interesting things in disassembly. colors, drilled holes
where an original car does not have holes etc. all come into play in
revealing the car's past. while most cars historys are less than exciting
, you never know what you have untill you do your homework! ALSO!
digging into scca history you will find before standardisation of rules
each scca region had difrent rules to one degree or another. for example
the dc region only required a single hoop and in most cases the darn thing
was not even as high as the top of the driver's helmet! log books and
stamped numbers identifying the region and sequential issue number did not
come into existance untill 68-69! look at old sports car race pictures
and you'll see anything from a nicely bent hoop to welded 90 degree angles
in the main hoop! reason being , difrent regions rules and interpertation
of those rules.
check out a picture of my bugeye at www.vintagesaab.com/vsrg you'll see a
period legal(ungodly unsafe too!) dc region bar.
