I need some help

I humbly come to the experts...
948 operating on points  not electronic
Under load ...like 2nd 3rd and 4th..accelerating at about 3000-3200 rpm 
loses power and exhaust sounds like sputtering. If I pull the choke it makes 
no difference..so it makes me think electonics...plugs look fine...but have 
not been tuned in oh maybe 5K.
I have ordered all distributor tune-up stuff. Points plugs cap wires 
condenser....U think I'm on the right track????
