there is a "locking" fixture back there...but
I've never had occasion to replace a choke
cable....ever (obviously, not a Lucas part:).
so I've never really seen it.

Once the control is pulled, rotating CW
slightly (less than 1/4 turn) locks same in
position. (to go the "other way".... go
the "other way", obviously!!:)

A buddy of mine cut out two small rubber
grommets (like you, he had a non-functioning lock or non-locking choke),
which he placed between knob and panel
after initial start, depending upon need.

Non-smoker...so kept them in the ashtray
(not a BE).
