Yeah, you could. The stuff from British Wiring is $3.00 to $5.00 per 20
meter (about 65 foot) roll. Depending on local sales tax, the handlebar tape
will run you close to $3.00 for about 18 feet of tape (more at a bike
shop).
Of course you have to figure in postage for the British Wiring tape, so for a
small, one-time-only job the handlebar tape might be practical, but if you're
doing anything significant (or doing more than one car), getting the right
stuff can be lots cheaper.
