Frank, I don't know if this is less than even a half step toward the marvels of
electronic ignition, but I have been using the points in the stock distributor
to fire an MSD5 box.  I think it starts easier, particularly in those cold
months when the starter is pushing against 20w50 oil.  The spark is always the
same intensity.  And if the box fails (which it hasn't) then one wire bypasses
it all and connects the points directly to the coil again.  Worked for me.  An
MSD5 box is supposed to be good to 5k rpm, and other versions go beyond.  For
about $80 for the MSD5, it's been all I needed.
