cleaning gas tanks

Hello all,
 
I know there was a lot of discussion about this a while ago. Sorry I didn't 
keep it.
 
What's the "we tight" way to clean and preserve a gas tank. It's out of the car 
to replace the sender, so I might as well overhaul it.
