All that you day is true, Bill.
As far as the "old airlines" go, the union
is the only friend a pilot's got when things
don't go as well as intended, most
assuredly in those circumstances (and
there are many) wherein the airline is
looking for someone to blame in circumstances wherein the crew was
not at fault.
The recent American A-300 crash out
of JFK comes immediately to mind.
There is no way the US airline system
would be as safe as it is today without
unions....no way at all.
Yeah...I know the "downside", too, along
with the downside of certain management
"techniques" which brought the union in,
in the first place.
