Because the plastic was not suitable for the purpose it was being put to.
I'm sure I read something about a bad 'batch' of such points in circulation
recently. I would return them and ask for a refund. A very long, long time
ago
I had a similar problem with Microdynamics blue points that kept closing up
the gap for the very same reason. Not long after that I switched to electronic.
