That phantom Canadian would be me . As far as comments go, It was a
Windstar full of parts that left on Saturday, I expect to have to make 2
more trips with a trailer to get both cars and the associated parts .
There is a fairly large pile of stuff to move, the excess stuff pretty
much fills a 12' or so snowmobile trailer, including a complete, less
rack, front frame section from a wire wheel drum brake car , a hardtop,
several rear axles , many wheels and tires, although the tires are all
junk from age . Inspecting the cars was a little difficult since one
was parked tight to a wall with a wooden framework around it and the
other stacked on top . The bare shell ( on top ) needs floors but
otherwise appears to be in reasonably decent shape. The bottom (
complete more or less) one is also reasonable although I expect it will
need floors too .Both bonnets are quite good although one has a wow in
the middle I expect from something heavy being on it, it however doesn't
appear to be creased . Transport will be difficult since both have been
blasted , it looks like with baking soda and bare metal abounds. A dry
day or two
will be a necessity.
Assuming that further inspection doesn't make it unfeasible I plan on
making a 1275 disc braked unit from one of them, I have a complete 72
RWA donor car for that .I got the 72 for next to nothing with the
intention of restoring it, . The other I hope to restore to a more or
less original wire wheeled 948, although I do have an extra 1275 lying
about . When I added up the costs of restoring the 72 and then looked
at the resale value I decided a Bugeye would be a much better bet I
suppose the thought of spending perhaps twice the resale value on a
restoration didn't appeal to me .
I suppose I should introduce myself. I live in Kitchener Ontario, about
60 miles W of Toronto or 180 miles E of Detroit. I'm a professional
mechanic, and have been full time in the trade since Mar of 1970 . I
have had my own small shop since Sept of 1975 , at one time
concentrating on performance work and fabricating, specifically rally
cars.I now do mostly general repair work, with a customer list that
encompasses everything from a Rolls Royce to a Chevy Cavalier . I've
always had a hankering for a Bugeye, but never expected to acquire one
at a reasonable cost, and this appeared to be an opportunity I didn't
want to miss.
BTW I have neither cats nor guns .
