After two perfect weeks, the Austin is home in the driveway venting excess
smoke from its generator. All was well until last night when I changed to a
better fitting fan belt. Old one was very loose and slipping. The new one
is properly tensioned just to the point that it is difficult but not quite
impossible to turn the fan by hand. The generator light comes on with the
turn of the key, goes off as soon as the engine starts, and everything
seems fine. After a few minutes of driving however, a burning smell issues
forth and smoke can be seen coming out of the generator. Shutting off the
ignition ends the smoke.
Ideas? Similar experience? Cheap solution? Pointless comments on
un-related topic?
Thanks,
Glen
