Chris,
Most compressors take a while to build up from zero.
See how it works once it is full. Try some air tools, not the brad 
nailer as 90 psi will shoot a thousand brads.
I always get upset when somebody (my son) turns off the power to my 
compressor for the very reason it tkes forever to build up.
I leave it on but turn off the air right at the compressor so nothing 
leaks down or in case a hose or line breaks. I already had the glass 
bead cabinet hose burst, what a mess!
I do the same with my portable compressors, always full.
