Dan,
The idea of the seals is to avoid oil being sucked into the combustion
chamber when the vlaves open. If you think about it, there is vacuum in the
combustion chamber when the intake valve is open but there is pressure in
there when the exhaust is open. Not going to suck much oil in that way.
