You'll need to cap the fuel tank vent and get a vented fuel cap from an earlier 
car. I'm not sure of the carb vent, someone else will have to chime in on that.

That being said, according to all my reading the evaporative emmissions control 
(of which the charcoal canister is a part) does not rob any power from the 
engine. Basically what it does is collect fuel vapor when the car is off in the 
canister. When the car is started, that vapor is sucked into the engine and 
burned. You could leave it all in place and have no power loss.

I believe the big power robber is the air pump. Since it's belt driven, it 
takes some power from the engine to turn it. Plus, it's pumping air into the 
exhaust stream, which may incerease exhaust backpressure. (I'm not 100% sure on 
this, but it sounds logical.) But I will assume you've removed this already.
