Get a plumber scratch brush to clean the hole. This is a round brush that
is used to clean plumbing fitting before soldering. They come in different
diameters. I recommend "tinning" each surface before you put them together.
Tinning is flowing solder onto each surface before assembling. This will
assure a complete and watertight seal. This way too, you will also see if
you have problem areas with solder sticking. Shake off any excess solder
one you've tinned each surface to make sure the pieces will still go
together.
