I had good luck with something I got from the Feed&Seed store. It is called a
compost thermometer. It has a regular dial face , but a rather long tube to
stick into a pile of compost so you know when it has "cooked".It made an
excellent oil temp device for me when deciding if I needed an oil cooler or
