Hand pushing the car around shouldn't hurt the U joint at all.
But, you could hang the d/shaft from a rope looped around the tunnel and
rubber drive shaft grease access hole and it will float around on the rope.
Or just stick a block of wood behind the U joint to keep it propped up.
