Refinishing paint (No LBC)

Sorry to bomb the list but who else to ask but my Spridget list buds
I have an old Chevy van that has old paint, primer & much surface rust, in
about that order.  It looks like a big grey palomino. Anyhow, I'd like to make
things better but I have a lot to learn as I'm not a painter and need a bit of
advise as to what's the best way to approach this.
