Frank, thank you so much for the tip on the oil based spar varnish. I called my friend and he was at the point of applying the varnish, but he has urethane spar varnish and oil based regular varnish. Where would one get oil based spar varnish?? Also, would one stain the wheel and then apply varnish or lightly pigment the varnish and then apply? The wheel looks so nice I would be tempted to not even stain it, but then it would be nowhere near original, just like the Midguki and BugeyeVette.
