What we did, and I heartily suggest if zoning allows, is put our compressor
in a shed next to our building.
We used a Sears tin shed (200 bucks). Built a 'foundation' of RR
ties for the perimeter, plus 2 in the middle for the compressor feet to
bolt to. Back filled with sand. Lay a piece or 2 of plywood for the floor.
Rigid foam insulation on walls and roof. Ran a 3" pipe into the building
with the compressor line inside. We added a "brooder" lamp that is focused
on the comp. motor oil pan for easier winter starts. Only needs 20 min or
so at -20F. Total outlay (w/o compressor) about 300 bucks.... and quiet.
Ron, I doubt building codes would allow a compressor in the basement.
