We're trying to find a rear backing plate oil leak on a 1098. This backing
plate seems to be a "pressed" plate, rather than the cast thick plate. It
seems to be leaking from just below the oil pump and running between the
block and plate.
- Could the backing plate be warped??? or just a bad gasket seal??
- Is the hole below the oil pump in the block just a drainback to the sump??
- Can this backing plate be reused or should we have a cast plate??
