There are certain parts which are absolute crap - the ACR series of Lucas
alternators for instance, and good reliable parts like the Delcotron series
of alternator - which is a good reliable component. The more modern japanese
alternators are apparently smaller and also very reliable. Who makes it
isn't important (I think the Lucas fuel pumps are actually pretty reliable)
as long as it works. For a driver car I don't get too excited about swapping
out minor items for reliablity. With radical changes like engine swaps you
end up with a different car.
