A stock 1275 in a bugeye is fine. Try a header and do some polishing and
matching of the ports and combustion chambers if you want a little more kick.
While the cylinder head is being done you might want to go to slightly
larger intake valves too. Since you are buying a new cam, you mighr want a
street cam. Victoria sells a couple of kits that are reasonable and give you
springs and lifters. Later on, if you want more power, you can add the 1.5
ratio roller rockers. As for balancing, it is not too expensive and aside
from higher revs it provides smoother and faster revs so think about it a
little longer before you decide.
The head work can be done by a good novice if you have the right tools, books
and templates and will then add cheap performance.
