While I'm sure your comment was entirely in jest, it really isn't funny.
Eye protection should not be restricted to the use of power tools.
Some years ago, a very experienced mechanic here in CT was using a drift to
remove a pin in a tranny that he was servicing. A small shard hit him in the eye
and he subsequently lost vision in that eye. Part of his greatest fear was the
very real possibility that existed for some time that he could lose vision in
the
good eye as well.
He is still a great mechanic, but now wears eye protection.
