Mountain Legends (Targa Florio '65)
This is an old Castrol film, now on VHS and produced/distributed by BMIHT
This is a *terrific* video. One of the better ones I have seen. It also
happens to feature some very spirited driving
by Timo Makkinen (big Healey), Rauno Aaltonen in the Healey's prototype
Sprite, and Paddy Hopkirk in what
looks like a Dick Jacobs MG Midget. Rauno also happened to end up the '65
rally champion of Europe but that
is a different story.
Good footage of works Ferraris, Porches and a Ford GT40 as well as works
Arbaths in the smaller classes.
If you don't have it, by yourself your next birthday present, wrap it
yourself and get your dog to buy it for you if
you have to (OK, I draw the line at the cat).
A 2nd video I just watched was
Classic Rallying 60/62 (Monte Carlo '60, Alpine Rally '62)
These films were produced by Standard-Triumph so especially in the Monte,
coverage is heavily biased to
the Triumph entries. By 62, Triumph were part of BMC, so the big Healeys in
the Alpine got good coverage
as well as minis, a MkII Sprite, etc.
Of particular note for the 62 Alpine was our mate John Sprinzel who was part
of the Triumph TR4 4 car team
(along with long time coi-driver Willy Cave).
Not in the same league as the 1st video, but well worth seeing.
cheers, Mike
