Ok, my 1100cc motor is in the shop and looks good, if nothing is cracked
its going to be an easy rebuild. I have had different opinions (How
surprising is that?) on what to do with the valve seats. I am of the
opinion that I should have the head machined for hardened seats for
unleaded gas but several people off-list have said don't bother.
What is the consensus ?
This is not going to be a race car, it is going to be a 2,000 maybe
3,000 mile/year car, I have 2 other Singer's that need to be on the road so
none of my cars gets a lot of miles. If the spridget motor works out as
well as I hope, it might replace my daily driver and become a 6-8,000
mile/year car which would involve 16 miles a day on the freeway 2 or 3 days
a week. That is part fantasy, I am not sure a 1934 Singer is appropriate
daily driver even with a spridget motor.
Knowing how I will use the car, should I do hardened seats like I think
I should or would it really be a waste of money like it has been suggested ?
One last item, on the Singer, the oil/temp/tach gauges are
mechanical, so I assume i will need spridget gauges. What were the
oil/temp gauges on a Sprite ? The Singer club has decals to put on a
Sprite Tach to make it look "Singerlike", I am not sure what to do for the
oil/temp gauges and also the speedo.
