The main thing most folks do is install a Buick/Rover aluminium V8. At
MG2000 in CLeveland there was one with Fuel injection on the 4 banger.
Clean install. Another popular thing is the Aluminum cross flow head. And
as a 79 the very first thing I would do is get rid of that freaking ZS
carb. Either a Weber or a set of SU's. As for the suspension there is not
a lot different things to do than on a spridget. Shocks etc. The major
mod to the body is typically the Sebring kit. Adds flares and a new nose.
Also some swap the RB for the old style chrome ones.
