I'd be REAL careful about a rebuilt car computer. They are pretty much
factory sealed and not designed to be repaired. He is right, the dealer will
charge about $800 for a new one. But, if he rebuilds it and it lasts a month
or two, what are your options. Ask if he will give you a year guarantee on
the box. I bet he won't.
These computers are the reason that a flood damaged car isn't worth anything.
Once water gets in the computer it has to be replaced, and they are too
expensive to make it cost effective.
Time for another car.
