Richard,
In my limited experience, both surfaces need to be clean and able to mate
completely, i.e. no dents, bends, rust, etc. Frank's previous recommendation is
the best advice I have heard on this issue short of installing a header. But
hey! Why not order the header? Sounds like a good excuse to me?
