I am doing the same thing: SU's on the British Intake manifold with HS4's
modified for 0 degree use. From what I have gathered, you can use 1 3/4" K&N's
but you have to modify the backing plates to move the hole for the carb down
(air filter moves up towards the bonnet).

For pictures and detailed how-to see:

you can see in his pictures that the K&N's are mounted off center.

I have also considered trying the cone type K&N's to see if they would clear.

No

But I think APT does a K&N filter that has an offset centre for the Mini -
would expect that the same approach is a solution worth investigating. It is
also possible to have the dashpot height reduced if you are really desperate.

set, but neither of us have them installed yet. My question pertains to
the filters. If you folks have them installed, is there a special filter
set I need to purchase, or will a set of round K&N filters do the job
 without hitting the bonnet?
