if i remember right it was called stoddard solution when i worked for big A
auto parts. came in 1 or 5 or 15 or 50 gallon containers. it was real
similar to safety kleen's solution. and if you have delicate skin i
recomend golves and hand cream(inside of the gloves). but reguardless use
with caution! it will dry your skin and could lead to cracking or splitting
of skin. when using any solvent for cleaning purposes be carefull about
what you expose your skin to. your skin breaths just like your lungs do and
it can absorb solvents and har just the exposed aerea or make you rather ill
for a while.
remember gas with lead? you know back when men were men and men never heard
of kisch! well tetraethyl lead was "the" lead that lubricated the valves
and made the cars go zoom with less boom. tetra ethyl lead can be absorbed
through your skin causing a wonderfull illness. that was one reason for not
using gas to clean parts, besides of it's volitility.
todays fuels, kerosene, and solvents are just as dangerous but with difrent
additives. be carefull, be safe and be well out there. some day i want the
pleasure of meeting all of you (even if it is 1 at a time). fire and health
hazzards are very real!
believe me! i have washed parts with anything i could get my hands on and
into from time to time. it takes skin a long time to not burn from chemical
exposure. dont believe me? spray brakleen brake parts cleaner on 1 hand
and dry it of fand see what some fast drying solvent does to your hand.
i'll save you that one ok! DON'T DO IT! butyour hand wil turn ghost white
and you will feel your skin tighten right up. you just washed all of the
oils from your skin! slowly your hand will regenerate oils and pliability
and color will return. but then when you wash you may notice your
previously soft hand will be a bit rough for a while.
yup you killed a lot of skin. like i said, i want to meet all of you.
please be carefull playing with the other children and remember to share,
and always play nice!
chuck.
all i want to do is play cars when i grow up!(when ever that will be?)
