Spridgeteers,
Now I'm beginning to feel dumb and dumber. I installed a new manifold
gasket and all was right with the world to a point. However,
resetting the carb mixtures using the lift-the-piston method, I find
that the front is spot on at only 3 flats down from the jet being
even with the bridge and the rear is spot on at 1 flat UP(!) from the
jet being even with the bridge. The idle is great, and the power
seems good, but there is now a flat spot in the acceleration in a
narrow rpm band (about 3000-3200) that can be alleviated by pulling
out the choke.
A month ago, before the gasket blew, this flat spot did not exist and
the carbs were pretty much in tune at about 12 flats down for the
front and 15 flats for the rear.
Has anyone ever heard of the mixture being correct with the jets set
so high? Is there something I need to check that I've overlooked when
replacing the gasket? Note, I did not disconnect lines or cables at
the carbs when I replaced the gasket.
Thanks in advance,
Jeff
