new noise

greetings!
I have noticed a new noise coming from somewhere around the gearbox region 
of my mkII sprite.
It's a fairly subtle sound, a rapid clicking that occurs when driving and 
ceases when the clutch pedal is pressed in. It may have been there for a 
while  but I have only just become aware of it, as it is not loud.
Ideas anyone?
