Charles asked: "Aren't the Midgets the lightest production car to be imported in the last twenty years?" I think the weight of a Midget Mk III is somewhere around 1566 lbs. But that wasn't sold in the last 20 years. The Mk IV was significantly heavier with the 1500 block, emmisions stuff and hefty bumpers. Probably the closest I know of is an '84 Honda CRX 1.3 that weighed in at 1683 lbs dry. (but got 68 mpg on the highway!). You could stand with your back to the rear wheel well and lift the rear end fairly easily. The front fenders and most of the body panels below the belt line were injection molded plastic. For reference the Ford Expedition is 5392 lbs, the Mazda Miata about 2300 lbs and the Suzuki Swift aka Geo Metro is 1895 lbs. AND...the weight of the new Lotus Elise 190 is 1477 lbs! Christian |
