I'm swapping it out with the 1500 that I rebuilt for my project car. I woke
up yesterday thinking that I had a perfectly good car and a perfectly good
engine, but the engine was in the garage and the car was in the driveway. I
have a radiator already prepared to go back in. I ordered another new water
pump (bought a new thermostat). I also have a clutch kit already, but don't
really want to use it on this car since I'm not sure if I'll be leaving that
engine in there or not. It depends on the condition of the engine I pull.

I like the garden hose idea though. :-) After spending the evening tearing
down the engine, I realized that about the only thing I won't be replacing
is the heater and associated hoses. I guess they'll be ok. Thanks,

adrian

Like, to another 1500 engine or some other beast?

Hoses, and the entries to them. Thermostat could be frozen
shut. Lots of little things that are pretty easy to check
out.

I recommend getting one of those kits that puts the socket
in the line for the garden hose. Then put a garden hose
in it, and turn it on and blast out everything.

Getting the radiator steam cleaned is cheap, cost me $25 CDN with
tip at a local shop.

The water pump is almost never at fault. Water pumps don't
last forever, but the failure is usually the bearing then
they squeal or leak. Even in the throes of death they
still move water around.

  Never enough, change it. ;>
