Mark,
As you may know glyptol is one of the older electrical insulation materials 
(paint).  The wires in generators are most likely covered with glyptol.  I 
think I recall seeing some oil filled capacitors.  The biggest problem I have 
experienced with glyptol in other applications is that it likes to flake off 
of the parts. Glyptol flakes floating around in the oil systems does not seem 
like a good thing.  That is assuming that you can get the inside of the block 
clean enough for the glyptol to adhere.
